Fairwind: An entrepreneurial adventure extending to the winds of Antarctica.

Founded in 2007, Fairwind embodies the bold entrepreneurial spirit of our region. A pioneer in small wind turbine technology, the company has expanded beyond our borders to the edge of the Antarctic ice shelf.

“Our mission is simple: to make wind power accessible to everyone, beginning with small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and farmers. IMBC has always been much more than just a financial partner. Thanks to the diversity and complementarity of its activities, IMBC has been able to support our company at every key stage of its development. Its solid, consistent support has been a crucial asset, even during the most challenging times. When Fairwind presented a recovery plan, IMBC was the first to place its trust in us. This decisive step helped us rally all our financial partners and bring everyone back to the table,” explains Philippe Montironi, Managing Director of Fairwind.

Specializing in the design and manufacture of vertical-axis wind turbines, Fairwind has never been one to shy away from a challenge. In its 17 years in business, the company has become a benchmark in its sector, installing over 50 wind turbines to date.

One of the company’s most significant accomplishments took place in 2023 with the installation of its first wind turbine in Antarctica. This technical feat required remarkable ingenuity to adapt to the extreme temperatures and winds of this corner of the globe.

A Bold Culture of Innovation

Fairwind’s development has been marked by a number of milestones, all geared toward innovation. In February 2013, IMBC supported Fairwind in its efforts to strengthen its R&D work, intensify product marketing and meet its working capital requirements. This trust has been renewed several times, resulting in IMBC becoming a shareholder of the company in 2024.

Back then, no one had heard of small wind turbines. We created a unique technology and supported a rapidly evolving sector. After years of collaboration, IMBC became a shareholder in Fairwind. This strong commitment symbolizes IMBC’s confidence in us and its recognition of everything our company has achieved. Innovation and surpassing ourselves have always been the driving forces behind our company. With IMBC at our side, we have the ideal strategic partner to accelerate our redeployment and achieve our goals,” adds Jean-Yves Bottieau, Managing Director of Fairwind.

This culture of innovation is now bearing fruit. Since 2022, Fairwind, a Belgian small wind turbine specialist, has offered integrated energy solutions that combine wind and solar power, helping its customers to make the right choices in their energy transition.
